Website & Map Terms of Use

These terms apply whenever you use the public parts of Art Roll: the mural map, the artworks list, the artist directory, location tools, the mural submission and photo removal forms, the problem-reporting form and the jobs board interest form. By using the site you agree to them. If you hold an artist account, the Artist Terms also apply to you. How we handle personal information is in the Privacy Policy.

• Use Art Roll only for lawful purposes and in a way that does not harm the platform, artists, other users, property owners or anyone else.
• Do not attempt to get into accounts, systems or private information that are not yours.
• Do not scrape, harvest or bulk-extract artist information or platform data, and do not place unreasonable load on the service.
• Do not use scripts or automation to submit forms, test email addresses against the directory, probe security controls or interfere with the site.
• Do not submit anything you know to be false, misleading, defamatory, unlawful, infringing or malicious.

We try to keep the map useful, but murals get painted over, altered, obscured, moved and removed, and locations, attributions and access details can go out of date. A mural appearing on Art Roll is not permission to enter private property, a restricted area or an unsafe place. Check local conditions, obey signs and road rules, and do not trespass or put yourself or others at risk to see or photograph an artwork. If a listing is wrong, use the “Report a Problem” button on that mural page.

Artist profiles contain information supplied by artists, and some profiles were carried over from the previous Art Roll website. Insurance, qualifications, tickets and similar professional details are supplied by the artist and are not independently verified unless a profile says otherwise. A profile is not an endorsement or a guarantee of an artist’s availability, experience, insurance or suitability. Make your own enquiries before engaging anyone.

Every photograph of a mural involves two copyrights: the photographer’s, in the image, and the artist’s, in the artwork. Art Roll obtains the photographer’s permission for every photograph a member of the public contributes (see the next section) and artists license their own images under the Artist Terms.

Art Roll does not obtain the mural copyright owner’s prior permission before publishing every photograph of a mural. We rely on moderation, on crediting the artist where we reasonably can, and on removing a photograph when the artist or copyright owner asks. Attribution is a moderator’s decision: a mural is “artist unknown” until a person verifies the credit, and we never link a potentially unauthorised work to an artist’s profile without that artist’s agreement. We may crop a photograph to remove people or to fit the display, and will not alter it in a way that misrepresents the mural.

If a photograph on Art Roll shows your artwork and you do not want it here, ask and we will take it down - see “Asking for a photograph to be removed” below.

Where the mural submission form is available, you can add a mural to the map without an account. You must be 18 or over; the form asks you to confirm that first, and if you are under 18 it stops and asks you to have a parent or guardian send the mural in.

• Give us photographs of the mural itself, not of people. A photograph showing a child is cropped to the mural or not published. A photograph showing adults may be published, cropped or declined at the moderator’s discretion, and anyone shown in a published photograph can ask for it to be taken down. Family photos in front of a mural belong on your own social accounts, where you are welcome to tag Art Roll.
• Confirm the location on the map. That confirmed point is what we store; location data inside the photo file is stripped.
• You must own the photographs or have the permission of whoever took them.
• Your name and email address are never shown publicly. The optional photo credit is shown publicly, exactly as you typed it.
• Nothing you send is published automatically. A moderator reviews every submission and may decline it, merge it into an existing listing of the same mural, or publish it. A mural a member of the public added goes through the same approval as an artist’s own.
• Where an artist has added their own images of a mural, those take precedence and public photographs are shown after them.
• You will be shown a receipt after submitting. It is the only way to withdraw your own photographs later without an account, so keep it.

The “Report a Problem” form lets you tell us a mural has been painted over, is in the wrong place, is wrongly credited, or something else. Reports are advisory: a person checks before anything on the map changes, and reporting a mural never removes it automatically. Your name and email are used only if we need to follow up.

Anyone can ask us to remove a photograph, without an account and without explaining at length: the person who took it, the artist, the mural’s copyright owner (which may be a commissioner or a council), a person shown in it, a child’s parent or guardian, a property owner disputing the location, or an artist disputing a credit. Use the removal link on the mural page, or email letsroll@artroll.com.au. We act first and ask for evidence afterwards if we need it. If a request involves a child’s safety or someone’s personal safety, mark it urgent: the photograph is hidden immediately, before anyone reviews the request.

What removal does, stated honestly:

• Removing a photograph takes it off Art Roll immediately - the stored file is deleted and the image is removed from the mural page in the same action. It also removes any post of it on Art Roll’s own social media accounts.
• Copies already generated by our hosting provider’s image cache can remain reachable at their direct image address for up to 31 days. They are not shown anywhere on the site, and reaching one requires already having that exact address.
• Removal cannot recall browser caches, files already downloaded, screenshots, search-engine copies or anything someone else has reposted.

Murals, photographs and profile content on Art Roll may be protected by copyright and moral rights belonging to artists, photographers and others. Appearing on Art Roll does not give you permission to reproduce an artwork or photograph commercially. The Art Roll name, branding, design, software and original content belong to or are licensed to Habitat Marketing Pty Ltd.

If you believe content on Art Roll infringes copyright or moral rights, defames you, discloses your personal information, or is otherwise unlawful, email letsroll@artroll.com.au with the page address, what the concern is and enough for us to assess it. We may hide content while we look into it, may ask for evidence of identity, ownership or authority before changing or removing it, and may contact whoever supplied it.

Art Roll runs on third-party hosting, storage, mapping, security, analytics and email services, which may process and store what you submit on our behalf; the Privacy Policy names them. We link to Google Maps for directions and to artists’ own websites and social media. Those services run under their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.

We may change, suspend or withdraw features where we reasonably need to - for maintenance, security, moderation or product changes - and we do not promise the site will always be available or error-free. We may update these terms; the current version is published here with its date, and changes apply to use of the site after they take effect.

To the extent the law allows, Art Roll is provided “as available”, and we do not guarantee the accuracy or currency of mural locations, artist information, directions or third-party content, and Habitat Marketing Pty Ltd is not liable for loss arising from trespass or unsafe access, reliance on outdated map information, dealings between users and artists, or third-party services. Nothing in these terms excludes rights that cannot lawfully be excluded, including under the Australian Consumer Law.
