Kell Sunshine, a muralist, lettering artist, and illustrator from the east coast of NZ, is known for her bright and retro-fresh creative style, with themes rooted in ecological messaging and a portfolio spanning 13 years that includes diverse creations from tarot cards to murals in various countries. Passionate about the relationship between Earth's inhabitants and inspired by environmental elements, Kell's work reflects her respect for nature, and her career highlights include working with 250+ clients, painting 50+ murals across different countries, curating ocean conservation projects, and participating in an artist residency in Greece.
About the Artist
Kell Sunshine is a muralist, lettering artist & illustrator from the east coast of NZ with a big appreciation for the magical, reciprocal relationships between Mama Earth's inhabitants. Kell loves to travel, and relishes in the regular opportunities which lead her to create work throughout NZ and the world. With a spirit that is shaped by environmental elements she is always eager to gather inspiration from foreign shores and will never stray too far from the ocean. At home she can be found sowing seeds in the company of her dog Pipi. Kell's creative style is characterised by bright and retro-fresh colour palettes and curvaceous forms, meticulously handcrafted lettering, and illustrative elements of flora, fauna, and the occasional sorceress. The themes of her murals are always rooted in ecological messaging, with an intention to poetically coerce the viewer into sharing in her respect and awe for the natural world which supports us. Kell’s portfolio of 13 years in the industry includes creating artwork for tarot cards, album covers, gig posters, t-shirts, jigsaws, beer labels, weddings, vehicles, store windows, skateboards, tea, chocolate, and more. Her highlight reel includes working with 250+ clients, and painted 50+ murals across NZ, Australia, Mexico, USVI, Greece and Indonesia. She has spoken at a handful of conferences including Typism - Gold Coast, 2018. She curated the 2017 activation of Sea Walls - Artists for Oceans Tairāwhiti NZ, bringing renown international artists together to paint 24 murals across the region with a focus on ocean conservation. In 2022 Kell attended an artist residency in Crete, Greece where she painted a mural in the streets of Heraklion. She is also one of 5 directing members of The League of Live Illustrators.
