Gold Coast teacher and head of the Art Department at Miami High, Scott Barnard, painted a large-scale whale eye for Surface Festival 2022 with one of his top students, Ibaia Kervella.

Ibaia – also a tattooist now working in Kingscliffe – has a unique style of tattooing, which was incorporated into the mural too.⁣
⁣
The ‘whale eye’ looks at all the cars going past, giving the term “whale watching” a different meaning. ⁣
