Journey

To connect with the flora and fauna existing in the Gold Coast Region, Cam Scale explores the lifecycle of the Longfin Eel (Anguilla reinhardtii). This native species travels from freshwater stream to ocean, to spawn and then die. On both directions of this journey the matured or baby eels pass freshwater snowflake lilies and saltwater mangroves to reach their respective destinations. Their unique transition between habitats connects the inland Gold Coast Region to the coastal area, acknowledging Chevron Island as a pathway that serves that same purpose for locals and travellers alike.
The artist weaves the joining of Chevron Island to HOTA by the new Green Bridge project, sourcing a colour palette from the construction to create a complete natural visual integration of the SPS structure into the evolving landscape. Abstracted ripples and reflections flow around the design, bringing the element of water to life.
