Home Sweet Home

This was a combined design project between Laura Strange and Claudio Kirac.

Home Sweet Home is a satellite mural project undertaken by Art-Work Agency, commissioned by Bleach Festival in 2015.In developing this work, our aim was to tie into the 2015 Bleach* themes of sharing stories and meeting places. The outcome was a three piece mural stretching from Nobby’s Beach to Southport on the Gold Coast, designed to both share our personal story and to become iconic for the Gold Coast.

“A sense of ‘home’ is tied to much more than just a physical dwelling.  Home is created around us, sometimes by our own choosing, sometimes out of necessity, and sometimes completely by accident. Home Sweet Home explores notions of finding and creating home, by embracing the power of typography in creating local identity and capturing the character of a time and place. The work was produced in the weeks leading up to, and during Bleach* Festival, and ties into key themes of sharing stories and meeting places.

The mural stretches over three sites, each with its own personal significance to the artists in finding their ‘home’. Starting at Southport and dotted through Mermaid and Nobby’s Beach, Home Sweet Home demonstrates that whilst our physical dwellings come and go, the community we create around us resonates within our hearts long after.”
